agent ORANGE and Napalm
Agent Orange was a powerful mixture of chemical defoliants that was used by the U.S. military to take out the forest cover of the North Vietnamese and Viet-Cong. It was also used to eliminate the crops that were being used to feed them. The U.S. alone sprayed more than 19 million gallons of herbicides over 4.5 million acres of land in Vietnam from 1961 to 1972. They used the U.S. aircrafts to deploy these powerful mixtures all over Vietnam. Agent Orange was named for the orange stripes across the drums the agent was kept in. Agent Orange cause major health issues to both the Vietnamese and the American war veterans. The dioxin the chemical caused diseases and issues such as inflammation, birth defects, nervous system disorders and even the development of various cancers. When Vietnam veterans returned home to their family, they started to notice irritations of the skin and bad rashes that ultimately led to much bigger health problems. Many lawsuits were filed and Agent Orange turned into a huge controversy. In 1991, President Bush, signed the Agent Orange Act. The act presumed Vietnam veterans to have been exposed to Agent Orange. They were then approved for disability ratings if they were showing any of the symptoms from Agent Orange. Although the U.S. suffered from Agent Orange, Vietnam was also hugely affected. Vietnam has reported that some 400,000 people were killed in repercussion of exposure to herbicides like Agent Orange. Many children have been born with birth defects because of the chemical and others are struggling or have died from the cancer it caused.
Napalm was made of naphthenic and palmitic acids with gasoline. Napalm was considered one of the most successful weapons of Vietnam. In 1963 to 1973, 388,000 tons of napalm was dropped in Vietnam . In the beginning, napalm was used to destroy bunkers and suffocate all those inside. Later the U.S. started to use napalm as bombs. A napalm bomb caused immense destruction all around it and U.S. aircrafts dropped them down. The aircraft dropping was not always accurate and a lot of times this led to innocent civilians dying. Once struck with napalm, your flesh will melt off and cling to your skin. It was a symbol of brutality in the Vietnam War. Napalm was exposed massively by media. Thousands of horrifying pictures and videos each day were reported and it started an anti-war movement.
